Coming up next is 2019's "Godzilla: King Of The Monsters", the third film in the MonsterVerse franchise and the second film to deal with Godzilla. In this installment, Godzilla must do battle against a three-headed hydra named Ghidorah. Also, Titans across the globe are awakened and set loose.
The film's cast includes Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Ken Watanabe, Ziyi Zhang, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, Aisha Hinds, David Strathairn, CCH Pounder, and Joe Morton.
In China's Yunnan Rainforest, something is awakening. It's a larva that will come to be known as "Mothra".
Things are a bit shaky at first. Mothra is highly antagonized. However, Dr. Emma Russell and her daughter, Madison, use a device called ORCA to calm the large animal.
Shortly afterwards, eco-terrorist Alan Jonah arrives and kidnaps Emma and Madison and also takes the ORCA, which appears to have the ability to successfully communicate with these large Titans.
Emma's ex-husband and Madison's father, Dr. Mark Russell (a co-creator of the ORCA) is approached by Dr. Serizawa and Dr. Graham from the Monarch organization. They want the ORCA back in their hands and they want Madison and Emma safely home. Mark agrees to help them.
They take him to an underwater base known as Castle Bravo, where Godzilla research is being carried out.
Meanwhile, Alan Jonah has taken Madison and Emma to Antarctica, where he plans on releasing a whole different kind of monarch. A three-headed hydra named Ghidorah.
At Castle Bravo, Mark and the rest of the Monarch crew come face to face with Godzilla, who has been absent from the world stage for five years.
Godzilla becomes very agitated and rushes away. The crew finds that he is making a beeline for Antarctica. Naturally, they follow, figuring he could be leading them to Emma, Madison, and the ORCA.
Ghidorah is awakened, and the huge monster and Godzilla engage in a battle. However, Ghidorah flies away not long after it begins.
We find out that Emma wasn't kidnapped at all. She is a very willing participant in Alan Jonah's plan. Waking Ghidorah is not all they have planned. They hope to awaken more Titans to restore the proper balance to the planet. Madison does not share her mother's enthusiasm. And Mark just thinks that Emma is out of her mind.
Ghidorah flies there and does battle again with Godzilla. However, the US military send an oxygen destroying missile hoping to eradicate the Titans.
Ghidorah escapes relatively unscathed. However, the Monarch crew loses a signal on Godzilla and assumes that he did not survive the missile attack. Ghidorah reigns as the undisputed King. His call awakens Titans all over the globe. And they unleash destruction upon the world.
Meanwhile in China, after coming out of her chrysalis, Mothra unveils herself to the world. She eventually leads the Monarch team to where Godzilla is resting, revealing that he is not dead as they feared.
The Monarch team takes a submarine deep into the ocean and find themselves sucked into a vortex. Where they end up surprises them all. It's an other-worldly place, where the legends of the Titans are written on the walls. No one can believe their eyes.
On the surface, Madison has stolen the ORCA. Finding herself at odds with her mother's mission, she sneaks into Fenway Park in Boston to broadcast a frequency which stops the Titan attacks all over the world. However, this frequency also draws the attention of Ghidorah, who rushes to Boston to stop it.
In the depths of the ocean, Godzilla is found to be resting, drawing radiation from the planet core. However, it is not enough. He needs much more in order to save the world from Ghidorah. Dr. Serizawa sacrifices himself and starts a nuclear bomb which will essentially recharge Godzilla's life force. Before the explosion, he is able to come face to face with the creature that he has spent his life studying and protecting. (This is my favorite part of the movie.)
It doesn't take long for the Monarch team to find out the results of the nuclear explosion. Godzilla is alive and well!
Godzilla rushes to Boston, where he does battle with the evil Ghidorah. "Serizawa's got that lizard juiced!" exclaims Dr. Rick Stanton. Everyone marvels at the way Godzilla fights.
When Godzilla is temporarily incapacitated, Emma (who now sees the error of her ways) uses the ORCA to distract Ghidorah. Unfortunately, she is killed in the process.
Serizawa's nuclear bomb worked a little too well. A thermo-nuclear Godzilla is now virtually unstoppable, and he easily defeats Ghidorah.
Madison, Mark, and the surviving Monarch team watch as the Titans arrive and hail Godzilla as the King of the Monsters as he lets out a mighty roar.

And that's it for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. In this film, we learn the origins of Ghidorah. He is not an actual Titan at all. He is an ancient monster from outer space who came and wrecked havoc on Earth. A fan asked the director of this film how Ghidorah came to be trapped in the ice in Antarctica. He replied that Ghidorah and Godzilla battled for dominance in ancient Antarctica and Godzilla won.
In a post-credits scene, we see Alan Jonah travel to Mexico where he is shown one of the heads of Ghidorah. Jonah buys the head on the spot. "We'll take it," he says with an evil grin.
