TV Tuesday: Sharknado (2013)

Sharknado - 2013

This week in the United States is Shark Week.  To celebrate, this edition of TV Tuesday features 2013's mega-hit TV movie "Sharknado", the story of a freak storm on the California coast that causes sharks to invade the city of Los Angeles and the surrounding areas.

The film's cast includes Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, John Heard, Cassie Scerbo, Jaason Simmons, Julie McCullough, Marcus Choi, Chuck Hittinger, and Aubrey Peeples.

Off the coast of California, a hurricane is forming and driving droves of sharks towards the land.

The people of the beach Santa Monica don't suspect anything.  To them, it's just another idyllic day at the seaside.  Fin Shepard certainly doesn't think anything is up as he heads out to catch a few waves.

Soon, reports of the hurricane make the TV.  Sharks start flying through the air and landing in weird places.  People have to do strange things to protect themselves.

Los Angeles is swamped with torrential rains and rising floodwaters.  The new water levels are perfect for sharks to swim through.

And swim through, they do.  Fin gets a few friends together in the protection of his car.  "That's a tiger shark," says Nova.  "How do you know?" asks George.  Nova replies, "Shark Week".

Fin's goal is to get to his ex-wife and daughter in Beverly Hills, which is already underwater.  "There are sharks swimming in the streets!  And now there's one swimming in your pool," warns Nova.  The water breaches the house and a shark gains access.  The group gets out just in time.

Once his family is safely with him, Fin sets out to help others.  A stranded school bus is surrounded by sharks, and Fin has to propel down to them and have them hoisted up one by one.

Things get a little dicey for Fin when a shark attacks his rope on the way back up.

A trio of tornadoes has now formed in downtown Los Angeles, and sharks are swirling rapidly through the air.  Fin's son Matt gives the idea that they can drop bombs in the center of the tornadoes in order to destroy the storms.  Thinking there's nothing better they can do, the group agrees.

While Matt flies the helicopter with Nova, Fin and his ex-wife April gird themselves for battle on the ground with whatever they can find.  Fin chooses a chainsaw.

Matt and Nova successfully deactivate the tornadoes with the bombs they throw.  However, they create another problem.  Falling sharks.

To protect himself and April, Fin uses his chainsaw to saw sharks in half as they hurtle through the air.

These sharks are everywhere, landing on people and even putting their prints in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theater!

One particularly massive beast attempts to swallow Fin for lunch.  However, he's got his chainsaw at the ready and is ultimately the victor in the battle.

Following the Sharkpocalypse, Fin, April, and the rest of the survivors look around at the devastation wrought by the sharks and the storms, and they are grateful to be alive.
