Coming up next on the blog is Disney's 1995 animated hit "A Goofy Movie", a film about a young man who is anxious to impress a girl from school, but finds he has to hang out with his dad instead of doing what he planned over the summer.
The film's cast features the vocal talents of Bill Farmer, Jason Marsden, Jim Cummings, Kellie Martin, Rob Paulsen, Wallace Shawn, Jenna van Oy, Joseph Lawrence, Pat Buttram, Florence Stanley, and Jo Anne Worley.
On the last day of school before summer break, Max meets up with Roxanne, a girl he has a major crush on. Before the day is out, the two of them make plans to hang out over the summer.
To help clinch his status in Roxanne's mind, Max takes over a school pep rally and masquerades as superstar Powerline. He sings the hit song "Stand Out", and is applauded by a very enthusiastic student body.
The school principal calls Goofy and tells him about Max's behavior. He warns Goofy that Max could end up in the electric chair if he continues on his destructive path. Completely worried about his son, Goofy decides to take Max on a fishing trip to bond with him and set him straight.
Max is less than thrilled about having to spend his summer vacation with his dad instead of Roxanne.
Before they head out of town, Max goes to Roxanne's house to explain why he won't be hanging out with her. He fibs a bit and says that he is actually going to a Powerline concert, where he will join the superstar on stage for his final number. Roxanne is very excited about that possibility that Max might wave to her on live television. Max, however, now has to figure a way out of the predicament he's backed himself into.
And with that, Goofy and Max hit the "Open Road". Goofy intends for their final destination to be Lake Destiny, Idaho. Max has a lot of thinking to do.
One of their stops is a place that Goofy remembers from time spent with his own father. Max is not excited. Who's your favorite possum? LESTER!!!!!
Goofy's co-worker Pete arrives with his son P.J. (who is also Max's best friend) in their ultra-tricked out RV. Now that's camping!
During their time together, Max and Goofy have a run-in with the legendary Bigfoot, who gives them quite a show.
Father and son really begin to bond during the trip. Goofy even lets Max become the navigator and choose wherever they stop (he seems to be unaware that Max is leading them to Los Angeles and the Powerline concert). He is especially excited over Max's choice of hotel. "Classy choice there, navigator," says Goofy.
They are followed by Pete and P.J. Pete asks if they can hook up the RV. "It's just a little power cord. You'll hardly notices it," assures Pete, as P.J. clumsily enters with a gigantic looking hose.
Eventually, Max and Goofy end up at the Powerline concert. They've come quite a long way in their relationship since they left their home. They are closer than ever before, and Max even gets to keep a promise to Roxanne and wave to her on television.

And that's it for A Goofy Movie. The idea for this movie came about after Jeffrey Katzenberg, who was Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios, went on a road trip with his daughter after feeling distant from her. The trip brought the two of them closer together. The character of Powerline (I'm still waiting for that album to drop, by the way) is based on Prince, Michael Jackson, and Bobby Brown.
There are a ton of Disney character references in this movie. In this particular scene, the animators included a "hidden Mickey". Can you find him?
