Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise Of Skywalker - 2019 |
Coming up next, we have 2019's "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise Of Skywalker", the dramatic conclusion to the globally popular space opera franchise that sees Rey, Finn, and Poe battle the First Order and face an old enemy.
The film's cast includes Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Ian McDiarmid, Lupita Nyong'o, Billy Dee Williams, Domhnall Gleason, Kelly Marie Tran, Billie Lourd, Anthony Daniels, Lee Towersey, Dave Chapman, Dominic Monaghan, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Naomi Ackie, Shirley Henderson, Diana Kent, James Earl Jones, Andy Serkis, Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson, Ewan McGregor, Frank Oz, and Liam Neeson.
Kylo Ren has traveled to the unknown reaches of the galaxy to a system called Exegol and found out something incredible: Emperor Palpatine has returned and has been orchestrating events for quite some time.
He has also created a huge fleet, which he calls the Final Order. This fleet will enforce his will upon the galaxy.
The Emperor also tells Ren to kill Rey. He warns him to be careful of her, because she is not what she seems. He then proceeds to tell Ren that Rey is his granddaughter.
Meanwhile, Rey has continued her Jedi training with Leia as her teacher. She's finding it a bit difficult to get into contact with the Jedi masters of the past.
Poe tells the members of the Resistance that they've discovered that Palpatine is alive and pulling the strings of the First Order. Matters have come to a head, and they've got to fight for their very survival.
Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and BB-8 head to the planet Pasaana, where they believe a clue is waiting to show them the way to Exegol. They arrive on the planet while it is a celebratory mood.
There, the group meets up with an old friend of the Resistance, Lando Calrissian, who shows them what they should be looking for. A Sith Wayfinder, one of only two in existence, will lead them to Exegol.
They also find a Sith dagger, which reveals the location of the Wayfinder. Only C-3PO can read it, but he is prohibited from repeating what he's read by his programming.
Rey's connection to Kylo Ren remains strong. While she is on Pasaana, he visits her thoughts and tells her the truth about who she really is. Rey is in shock and disbelief.
Rey has a confrontation with Ren on Pasaana, and the unchecked use of her powers frightens her to her core after an accident happens.
Later, by wiping C-3PO's memory, the group is able to extract the information they need to locate the Wayfinder.
Their search takes them to one of the moons of Endor, where they find the destroyed Death Star, the location of the Wayfinder.
They also meet some former stormtroopers who are friendly to the Resistance and want to help. These inhabitants of the Endor moon have a very interesting mode of transportation. (This is the only Star Wars movie to use an equine species.)
Rey goes deep into the Death Star, where she sees relics from the past and does indeed come across the Wayfinder.
During the battle, Leia uses every once of strength she has to communicate with her son. She is successful, but the effort causes her to die. Rey flees using Ren's transport.
The ghost of Ren's father, Han Solo, appears, and his words cause Ren to think deeply. He makes the transition away from the Dark Side.
Rey heads to Ahch-To, where she destroys her transport and intends on living on the island as a recluse like Luke Skywalker did. (Look, porgs!)
Luke appears to Rey and gives her a talking to. He tells her that it's her destiny to face her grandfather and end the oppression of the First Order.
As she travels, Rey lets Poe and the Resistance know where she is. Using the Wayfinder, she leads them right to Exegol.
Rey arrives on Exegol and comes face to face with her grandfather, who offers her the throne as Empress Palpatine.
Kylo Ren comes to her aid. Palpatine uses their strength in the force to regenerate, and he firmly intends on remaining in command.
Having arrived at Exegol with the Resistance forces, Poe and the rest are completely overwhelmed. However, when the battle seems to be at its most dire, Lando Calrissian arrives with a surprising number of reinforcements.
Rey matches strength with her grandfather. "You are nothing. A scavenger girl is no match for the power in me. I am all the Sith!" he tells her. "And I am all the Jedi," she responds as she defeats him forever. Rey doesn't escape unscathed. After her grandfather and his followers are defeated, she collapses on the ground.
Later, Rey travels back to where it all began: Tatooine. At the Skywalker homestead, she buries Luke's and Leia's lightsabers. We see that she has fashioned one of her own.

And that's it for Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise Of Skywalker. Originally, the film was to be titled: "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Last Hope", in reference to the first film in the franchise "A New Hope". Apparently, security was extremely tight during filming. Mark Hamill likened it to "being in the CIA".
During their time on Pasaana, Rey and company get sucked into a large pit of sinking sand. This "sand" was actually thirty tons of black beans, which had been shipped to Jordan (the location used for Pasaana) to be used for filming.
