Ocean's Eight - 2018 |
Coming up next we have 2018's "Ocean's Eight", a film that sees the sister of one famous con man performing a con of her very own, one that may even eclipse her brother's achievements.
The film's cast includes Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Richard Armitage, James Corden, Marlo Thomas, Dana Ivey, Mary Louise Wilson, Dakota Fanning, Elliott Gould, Anna Wintour, Kim Kardashian, Katie Holmes, Serena Williams, Heidi Klum, Common, Tommy Hilfiger, and Zac Posen.
Debbie Ocean (sister of Danny) has been in prison for a number of years. She has a chance at parole, and she puts on the act the prison guards want to hear.
She gets out of prison and vows revenge on the man who is responsible for her being behind bars: an old boyfriend, art dealer Claude Becker.
To do this, Debbie plans on stealing a valuable diamond necklace and framing Becker with the theft. Naturally, she'll need some loyal accomplices.
Rose Weil is a down-on-her-luck fashion designer who needs a windfall of cash to save her from ruin.
Amita works for her family's jewelry business, and she will do anything to get out from underneath her domineering mother's thumb.
Nine Ball (aka Leslie) is a security hacker, and she is a master at cracking into highly specialized security systems.
Constance is a whiz at slight of hand, and she proves her worth at picking pockets on the mean streets of New York.
Tammy is a suburban housewife and mother who specializes in moving stolen goods in and out of her home.
An unwitting participant in the scheme is actress Daphne Kluger, around whom this entire heist revolves.
After gathering up the team, it's time to do a little reconnaissance at the Met in New York, where the annual fashion gala is due to take place, and where the ladies' plan will unfold.
Once the plan is in place, it's time for the ladies to get all gussied up and blend in with the crowd at the high profile gala.
While most of the guests are occupied elsewhere, the heist goes down. Though, it's not only one necklace the ladies are after.
All of Debbie's hard work and planning pays off. Her old boyfriend and reason for her prison time is framed for the theft, and he is locked up himself.

And that's a wrap on Ocean's Eight. Anne Hathaway took over the role of Daphne Kluger from Jennifer Lawrence, who had to drop out. In addition to Elliott Gould, Ocean's movie alums Matt Damon and Carl Reiner also filmed sequences for the movie, though their scenes were later cut.
The diamond necklace that the women aim to steal in the movie was actually a real necklace, though not in existence at the time of filming. The "Touissant Necklace" was created in 1931 by Cartier for the Maharajah of Nawanagar, and it featured the 136.25 carat "Queen of Holland" diamond. The original necklace was actually bigger than the one portrayed in the film. It was later dismantled for use in other settings. Cartier recreated the piece from zirconium oxides and white gold. It took eight weeks to make and was created in their Paris workshop and later shipped to New York for filming.
