Howdy! Coming up next we have 1993's "The Beverly Hillbillies", a story about a resident of rural Arkansas who finds himself a billionaire after striking it rich in oil. His subsequent move to Beverly Hills with his family isn't all it's cracked up to be, and he's got to be on the lookout for fortune hunters and adjust to the all new culture of Californy.
The film's cast includes Jim Varney, Diedrich Bader, Erika Eleniak, Cloris Leachman, Lily Tomlin, Lea Thompson, Rob Schneider, Dabney Coleman, Kevin Connolly, Buddy Ebsen, Dolly Parton, and Zsa Zsa Gabor.
"Come and listen to a story 'bout a man named Jed, a poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed. And then one day he was shootin' at some food, and up through the ground come a bubblin' crude. Oil, that is. Black gold. Texas tea."
"Well, the first thing ya know, ol' Jed's a millionaire. The kinfolk said 'Jed, move away from there'. Said 'Californy is the place you ought to be'. So they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverly. Hills, that is. Swimmin' pools. Movie stars." Watch your head, Granny!
Jed Clampett and his family (which includes his daughter Elly May, mother-in-law Granny, and nephew Jed) move to Beverly Hills, and quickly become overwhelmed by California living, especially when they get to their new mansion.
They are mistaken for vagrants in the mansion and thrown in jail along with "some woman involved in a drive-by slapping." It's all a misunderstanding, and the Clampetts are free to go once everything is sorted out.
Yes, life in the California fast lane is certainly confusing for the Clampetts, who struggle to come to grips with things such as cellphones. "Thinks she's talkin' to somebody," says Granny. "There ain't even a cord there."
And California certainly isn't ready for the Clampetts. Instead of the dining room, they serve dinner in the mansion's Billiard Room, and pass the dishes in unconventional ways.
And an enterprising pair of thieves are anxious to cash in on the Clampett billions. The woman, named Laura, masquerades as a French teacher intent on refining Elly May's hillbilly ways. Her boyfriend, an employee of the bank where the Clampetts keep their cash, handles all the specifics of the scheme. Laura cozies up to Jed in an effort to make him fall in love with her.
At a birthday party for Jed, he proposes to Laura in front of all the assembled guests. Dolly Parton is the first to offer the couple congratulations, and she serenades them with "If You Ain't Got Love".
However, Granny finds out Laura's plans and rushes to tell Jed. The thieving duo kidnap her and have her committed to an insane asylum, where electroshock therapy is administered.
Can Granny make it back to the Clampett estate to stop the wedding and the transfer of all of Jed's money into the hands of thieves? I'll let you watch the movie and find out for yourself. Y'all come back now, ya here?

And that's all for The Beverly Hillbillies. This was Jim Varney's first leading role in a film outside of the "Ernest" movies that he was so famous for. A sequel to this film was considered, but it was never produced. It would have seen the Clampetts visiting Europe.
Buddy Ebsen, who played Jed Clampett in the "Beverly Hillbillies" TV series for nine seasons, had a cameo in the film. He plays another of his TV signature characters, Barnaby Jones, a role that Ebsen played for seven years.
