Olaf's Frozen Adventure (2017)

Olaf's Frozen Adventure - 2017

Our next film is 2017's "Olaf's Frozen Adventure", a short film in which we find Olaf searching for a Christmas tradition for Anna and Elsa.  Little does he know what their perfect holiday tradition already is.

The film's voice cast includes Josh Gad, Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, and Jonathan Groff.

It's Christmastime in Arendelle, and Olaf is super excited to be spending his holiday season with Anna and Elsa.  To celebrate, they've got a huge party planned for the kingdom after the ringing of the Yule Bell.

Borne by Kristoff and Sven, the Yule Bell is lifted to its rightful place and rung loudly to the cheering of the crowds.  Elsa exclaims, "Let the holidays begin!"

Unfortunately, no one can stay for the surprise party.  They all have to get home so they can begin their own holiday traditions.

Even Kristoff and Sven have their own tradition, which includes licking the head of a fungus troll.

When Olaf asks Anna and Elsa what their Christmas traditions are, neither of them can answer.  They were apart for so long that they haven't had any traditions of their own.  They both leave the room sadly.  Olaf, however, has an idea.

With his trusty friend Sven, Olaf makes the rounds of the kingdom of Arendelle to find each home's tradition.  He fills a sled with samples to take back to Anna and Elsa so they can choose their perfect tradition for "That Time Of Year".

Olaf even spends some time with the Oaken family at their sauna, which is their favorite tradition.  "Oh, would it be possible to get one of those awkwardly revealing yet tastefully traditional towels your family is so fond of wearing?" asks Olaf before he leaves.

As Olaf and Sven head back to the castle, a fire erupts on the sled, destroying all of the holiday traditions, and separating the two of them.  Olaf heads into the woods to find a shortcut, but is quickly beset by wolves.  Sven runs off in the direction of the castle.

Meanwhile, while searching in the castle's attic, Anna and Elsa may have just stumbled upon their own Christmas tradition after all.

Sven arrives back at the castle and desperately tries to get Kristoff to understand what's happened to Olaf.  No need to fear.  Anna and Elsa get the message perfectly.

They organize a search party and set out into the forest to find him.  They eventually do discover where he is, and when they do, they find out that Olaf is feeling just a bit depressed about the traditions that he collected.

But he is in for a surprise when they show him that they have their own tradition after all: it's him.  He was what brought them together when they were little.  And Anna made Elsa some Olaf-themed gifts every year when they were separated because of Elsa's icy curse.  Olaf is so happy when Anna and Elsa gather him up for a warm hug.

And Olaf is overjoyed to find out that "When We're Together" that is his friends' favorite place to be.

Cast rundown:

Josh Gad - Olaf's Frozen Adventure
   Josh Gad........................................Olaf

Idina Menzel - Olaf's Frozen Adventure
   Idina Menzel...................................Queen Elsa

Kristen Bell - Olaf's Frozen Adventure
   Kristen Bell.....................................Princess Anna

Jonathan Groff - Olaf's Frozen Adventure
   Jonathan Groff.................................Kristoff

And that's all for Olaf's Frozen Adventure.  This was released in theaters alongside Disney's "Coco".  But while audiences everywhere love the Frozen characters, they were not very happy about sitting through a twenty-two minute short film before a feature length movie.  Movie theaters all over the United States began pulling it from their screens to accommodate audiences.

One of my favorite things about this short film is the recurring goat/ram motif throughout.  They appear absolutely everywhere: next to the Yule Bell, on tablecloths, as Christmas decorations in homes, as embellishments on houses, on banners and steins, even on Anna's gown.  Anyone know where I can get any of these items?
