Coming up next on TV Tuesday is everybody's favorite TV game show. This episode of 1977's "Match Game" features a pretty funny impersonation.
The episode's cast includes Gene Rayburn, Richard Dawson, Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, Richard Gautier, Jo Ann Pflug, and Fannie Flagg.
You know the show. Gene Rayburn hosts a bunch of celebrities as they strive to match a couple of contestants and complete a sentence with an operative word. Aside from Gene, the regulars on the show are Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, and Richard Dawson. The guests this particular week are Richard Gautier, Jo Ann Pflug, and Fannie Flagg.
We start in with a question: "Georgie Porgie said, 'I kiss the girls and make
them cry,' and Horrible Hannah said, 'That’s nothing. I kiss the boys and make them blank'.”
The hijinks start almost immediately. Richard Dawson and Fannie Flagg decide to impersonate Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly by assuming some of their mannerisms and their props.
The audience and Brett Somers think it's absolutely hysterical! And it is. "You kids are a hit," Charles Nelson Reilly says to the fake Charles and Brett.
During the show, Gene compliments Charles on his "bathrobe". "It happens to be from one of Beverly Hills' most exclusive shops!" he says touchily. Brett laughs and says, "Well, don't tell, because you'll ruin their business!"
This is going to be a short post today, because you can watch the entire episode right here. The Brett/Charles impersonation happens pretty close to the beginning.

And that's it for Match Game. The show is still much beloved for the way its atmosphere came across on the screen. There just seemed to a be a whole lot of fun going on all the time. Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly are always a delight. Their constant playful bickering and banter is such fun.
