Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens - 2015 |
May the Fourth (Force) be with you! Coming up next is 2015's "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens", the continuing story of Han, Luke, Leia, and a bunch of new characters as they battle evil forces for the good of the galaxy.
The film's cast includes Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Lupita Nyong'o, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Max von Sydow, Harriet Walter, Judah Friedlander, Billie Lourd, Daniel Craig, Dave Chapman, Domhnall Gleason, Simon Pegg, and Pip Torrens.
Thirty years after the events of the previous Star Wars movie, a new regime called the First Order seeks to control the galaxy. Led by Kylo Ren, a group of Stormtroopers wrecks havoc on the planet of Jakku as they seek to learn the location of a secluded Luke Skywalker. They take a Resistance pilot named Poe Dameron captive.
Poe, however, has left the information about Luke Skywalker safe in the keeping of his droid, BB-8, who remains on Jakku.
One Stormtrooper has a conscience. This particular man has a hard time coming to grips with the killing and devastation that the First Order brings with it.
Living on Jakku is a scavenger named Rey. She has no family and is alone on the barren landscape that seems to be a wasteland for old Imperial star destroyers and other ships associated with the old Empire.
It's a lonely, solitary existence. Rey scavenges inside these defunct pieces of machinery for parts she can exchange for food.
By chance, she meets BB-8, and she quickly realizes that he is one very valuable and very special droid.
Meanwhile, our questioning Stormtrooper decides to break away from the First Order and aids pilot Poe Dameron in escaping as well. Poe names his new friend Fin and the two make a break for it.
The two crash land on Jakku and get separated. After wandering in the desert, Fin is very thirsty, and he doesn't care where he gets his next drink from, sharing a trough with a very interesting creature.
Fin meets up with Rey and BB-8. After being chased by the First Order, they make their way to a getaway ship, which just happens to be the Millennium Falcon.
Once aboard and safely away from the First Order, BB-8 tells them where they can find the Resistance.
En route, the group meets up unexpectedly with Han Solo and his loyal friend Chewbacca. Han is very glad to be back with his old ship.
Kylo Ren is summoned before Supreme Leader Snoke who observes, "There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?" Snoke is also very concerned about feelings that Kylo Ren has about his father. His parents turn out to be none other than Han Solo and Princess Leia.
Han takes Rey, Finn, and BB-8 to the planet of Takodana to meet up with an old friend, Maz Kanata. Han takes a fatherly liking to Rey. At Maz's place, Rey comes across Luke Skywalker's old lightsaber.
While all of this is going on, Snoke has given the go-ahead for the use of a new weapon, which destroys several planets who support the Republic and the cause of the Resistance.
After having some visions, Rey gets confused and runs into the woods, where she comes face to face with Kylo Ren, whose forces are attacking Takodana. He takes her with him as his prisoner.
The First Order forces are scattered when Resistance reinforcements arrive, commanded by Princess (General) Leia. Apparently, she and Han haven't seen each other in quite some time, and their reunion is bittersweet.
Poe is reunited with Fin, who is distraught over the fact that Rey has been taken. BB-8 is able to show an incomplete map of where Luke Skywalker is in seclusion. With the leaders of the Resistance gathered, they must figure out a way to destroy the First Order's new weapon.
Rey, meanwhile, is able to resist all of Kylo Ren's attempts at getting information out of her, to his great frustration.
She is also very surprised to discover that she can use the Force and is able to get free without the assistance of any rescue party.
Tasked with finding a way to stop the First Order's weapon, rescue Rey, and bring his son home, Han Solo comes face to face with Kylo Ren.
The meeting doesn't go well. Kylo Ren kills his father, which horrifies Rey and Chewbacca who are watching from a distance.
Rey and Kylo Ren meet up in a snowy forest and dual it out with lightsabers. Rey is continually amazed by how she's able to channel the Force.
The Resistance does what it came to do: destroy the weapon. Rey and Fin get away with Chewbacca on board the Millennium Falcon. Kylo Ren also escapes the inferno.
After the weapon is destroyed, an old friend who has been asleep for quite some time awakens and is able to point the rest of the way to Luke Skywalker.
They arrive at their destination, Ahch-To, and Rey makes a long and arduous climb. When she finds Luke, she holds out his lightsaber to him.

And that's it for Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. John Boyega originally played Fin with his natural English accent. He later felt it wasn't right for the character and changed it to an American accent. After being cast in their roles, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega were forbidden to tell anyone for three months. The character of Luke Skywalker was to have a larger role in the film. However, it was scaled back because of fears that his character would overshadow the newer characters.
